They are public records and may be viewed in person at the State Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation. 3 STORY MULTI-PANED GLASS WINDOWS. THIS PLANT REPLACED 1901 BLDG. CORBELLED CORNICE. "The Light and Water commission's brick veneer, steel framed power plant replaced a 1901 building also used to generate power to local residents and businesses. The building housed 3 turbines which could run on either natural gas or diesel fuel. The Power Plant was decommissioned in the late 1980s, the turbines removed and the building then sat vacant for 5-6 years, drifting into a state of disrepair. The city considered tearing it down and making it into a parking lot; but before doing so, they put out a public request for alternative use proposals with the current owner's proposal being selected. It is another good example of restoring an old building for a use other than its original purpose. There are offices on the main floor for up to 22 people and the mezzanine provides an additional 8 work stations. The perimeter walls and some interior portions have tastefully utilized recycled redwood from the old cooling towers. The boards are totally knot free and all vertical grain. Approximately 350 broken and etched glass panes have been removed and replaced." |
