Additional Information: | 2005- Rising from a fieldstone foundation and sheathed with clapboard siding, this is a 1.5 story, front gable house. The main entrance appears to be centered in the west gabled endwall and is sheltered by a hipped roof porch, the foundation of which is obscured by lattice work, above which is a clapboard railing and then screens. Centered in the gable peak, above the porch, are paired, double-hung, one-over-one-light windows with plain wooden surrounds. Two individual, double-hung, one-over-one-light windows are set in the north sidewall. Little is known about this house. Given its style and the material from which it was constructed, it is thought to date to the 1900 to 1920 period. It .is at that time that a P. Kronenwetter appears to have owned the property on which the house was built. Whether Kronenwetter, likely a descendant of the town's namesake, ever lived in the property is unknown. It was built, however, immediately adjacent to Old Highway 51 (and its predecessor roadways). Thus it is possible the house was occupied by someone whose business focused on the road and the accessibility it provided. -"I-94" WisDOT ID #1030-20-00, Prepared by Heritage Research, Ltd (McQuillen) (2006). |
