Additional Information: | Red Crown Lodge consists of eleven primary buildings, a number of garages an a tennis court and basketball court. The earliest structure on the premises--the building which now serves as the main lodge and dining room--reportedly dates to 1906. Red Crown Lodge was created as a corporate retreat by Red Crown Gasoline Company in 1922. Company president Col. Stewart wanted to promote better teamwork and cooperation among the top executives of the company and he decided that could be accomplished by having them "play together." In 1922, Stewart purchased an estate which already included the main lodge--or at least a portion thereof. Red Crown eventually became the Standard oil Company and eventually Amoco. Shortly after BP purchased Amoco, BP sold the property to Madison developer Bob Dunn. Dunn continues to operate the property as a corporate retreat and business center. |
