Additional Information: | Alpine Resort consists of the main lodge, six cabins, a "motel" unit, an updated mobile home unit and a few ancillary structures. Fieldstone is used extensively throughout the property for cabin foundations, pathways, retaining walls, stairs and as a border for the fire pit. The Alpine Resort was established by Arthur and Elizabeth Schacht in 1922. The original buildings include a portion of the main lodge and the four cabins to the south, as well as a workshop. Arthur died in 1936 and Elizabeth continued to run the resort until 1943. Allen and Evelyn Welch purchased the resort and ran it until 1962, when they sold to Dave and Jean Evans. In 1970, it was sold to Elmer and Dorothy Ross who ran it for just one year. In 1971, it was purchased by Jim & Jo Spencer who sold it to Roger and Barbara Sellstrom, who briefly operated the resort as a family retreat. In 1984, the Taylors purchased the property and ran it again as a resort; they sold to the current owners Tim and Kim Bowler. Please see the Survey of Historic Resorts: Vilas County. Prepared by Heritage Research, Ltd., 2004. |
