Additional Information: | This property is located on a hill above Otter Lake and is comprised of seven cottages and a storage building. Each cabin, which retains its exterior log sheathing, is constructed of maple 2x4s; however, the interiors have been gutted and modernized. An eighth cottages was sited immediately adjacent to the lake;however it was recently destroyed by high winds. This resort was reportedly established by Louis and Charlotte Hall. According to the current owner, the Halls purchased the property in 1938, cut down a section of maple trees, let them dry and stored them for a year and then returned the following year to build their first cabin. They did this each year until they had built eight cottages, thus bringing the completion date for the resort to circa 1946. The next owners were the Dartons, who sold the property on land contract three times in nine years, getting it back each time. The cottage closest to the lake was recently destroyed by a storm; however, the remaining seven cabins remain intact(with interiors modernized by John and Carol Lumley, the resort's owners since 1982). |
