Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation-Public History. The Louis & Sophia Hovener House was constructed in 1890. Originally featuring a flat roof, the hipped roof was added in 1939. As well, the stone garage addition projecting from the southeast corner of the house was built in 2006. The Hovener House features coursed, quarried stone with liberally applied mortar on the primary elevation of its wing, as well as on its side and rear elevations, while the primary façade of the main block exhibits dressed, cut stone with thin mortar joints. Additional notable elements of its construction include stone quoining, window hoods and sills, and a primary façade water table, all of which feature a tooled finish. Also included on the property is a circa 1875 granary, 1921 hog and chicken barn, circa 1925 corn crib, circa 1925 milk house, and circa 1925 poured concrete silo. Historic primary barn was destroyed by fire in 2007 and an existing banquet hall building (designed to resemble a barn) was constructed on its fieldstone foundation in 2008. |
