It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. TENT ROOF W/ FLARED EAVES. This very small garden structure is located just to the south of the Villa Louis mansion and the original version of it was in place by 1884 and is shown on the 1884 Bird’s-Eye View of the Artesian Stock Farm. The current gazebo is a reconstruction of the original and it was built in 2007 by Michael Mara of Prairie du Chien. The original gazebo is thought to have been designed by Edward Townsend Mix but it was located in a damp location and has been rebuilt multiple times. The current gazebo is believed to be the third or fourth iteration and it was constructed using historic photographs and architectural fragments of earlier versions that are stored on site. This very small garden structure is made of wood that is painted a dark green and its design displays Gothic Revival Style elements. The structure has a nearly square plan, three of its four sides consist of louvered panels, while the fourth side is open and faces the pond. The gazebo’s interior has wooden bench seating attached to its three closed sides and it is sheltered by an elaborate tent-shaped wooden roof that also features a decorative jig-sawn frieze band. #12633 #12634 #12635 #12636 #12637 #12638 #12639 #234139 #234143 #234144 #234145 #234146 #234147 #234148 |
