Additional Information: | 2001- "This intact farmstead consists of a one-and-one-half story Bungalow Style farmhouse, a gable-roofed animal barn, and several smaller gable roof and hip roof agricultural outbuildings. According to Mr. Carl Graf, the current owner, the farmhouse was built for his father, Charles Graf, between 1906 and 1922. It is believed, however, that most of the farm buildings were constructed prior to the house in the later nineteenth century, so the existing house is probably a replacement for the farm's original farmhouse. The square plan, side-gabled house is highly intact, is clad completely in dark brown brick, has a main facade that faces west onto STH 78, was built for Charles Graf, and is believed to have been built ca.1917-1922. An older, largely intact, gable-roofed animal bam is located behind the house to the east of the house and this barn has a fieldstone first story and its upper portion is clad in vertical boards, as are most of the farm's other, smaller outbuildings. Note: the site of a now demolished cottage that was located north of the present farmhouse and built in 1913 to house a handyman who worked for the Grafs, was excavated by MAP for this project and it is discussed in detail as The Grafs Cottage Site (47-SK-0580)." -"STH 78- Prairie du Sac to Merrimac", WisDOT 5630-03-00, Prepared by Timothy F. Heggland (2001). |
