Additional Information: | January 2002-The Hatley Depot is a one-story, frame, Side Gable building finished with board-and-batten siding and appears to date from c. 1910. Brackets with knee braces appear beneath the eaves. A sign board reading, #28;HATLEY#29; can be seen in each gable end. The south-facing facade displays a polygonal ticket window with four-over-one windows (mostly broken). A wood-and-glass door east of the ticket window opened into what was probably the passenger waiting room. A six-over-one window, partially-boarded, is found east of the door. The window and the door are each sheltered with a small, shed-roofed canopy on brackets with knee braces. A larger door, perhaps for freight, is located west of the ticket window. The east gable and exhibits a pair of sliding doors on a metal track. The doors are board-and-batten and were made by cutting a hole in the wall of the depot, splitting the wall into two pieces, fixing a metal track to the exterior of the building, and suspending the pieces of wall to the track, thus forming a door. The north-facing facade exhibits two, six-over-six windows (one of which is partially boarded) at the passenger waiting room end and one large door at the freight end. On the interior, the passenger waiting room area had wood floors and a wall finish of wood boards. This area has been gutted (including the floor) and a truck is parked inside. The depot is in deteriorated condition. |
