Additional Information: | July 2001-This two story, cream brick Gable Ell farmhouse appears to have been built c. 1855, probably for A. G. Yrndt (later Gerndt). The house rests on a fieldstone foundation. The roof is clad with asphalt shingles. The front facing gable end displays decorative belt course of red brick. The house exhibits 1/1, double hung sash in segmental arched openings. A group of modern casement windows has been installed in an enlarged opening on the front facing façade. The house has also lost its front porch. Statement of Significance: This farmhouse was probably constructed for A. G. Yrndt (later Gerndt), who owned the property in 1889. From at least 1912 until at least 1924 the property belonged to H. (possibly Herman) Gerndt. In 1953, Herman Gerndt was the owner. The current owners are the Gerndt brothers; Arthur and Dianne Gerndt live in the house. The Gerndt Farmhouse was evaluated under Criteria C and B. It is a good example of the Gable Ell form, but its integrity has been compromised by the loss of the front porch and the altered window opening on the front facing façade. |
