Additional Information: | Large frame rectilinear plan addition added to the rear of the original portion prior to 1979. Addition is now (2001) clad in aluminum clapboards. 2002: The first owner and occupant of the original portion, Al Zamorski, moved to North Prairie from Milwaukee in 1920 after learning that STH 59 was going to be paved. Realizing that the improved highway would contribute to the growth of the area surrounding the village and that North Prairie was then without a modern service garage, Zamorski decided to establiish an automobile and truck garage on STH 59 (113 E. State Rd.), which he called the North Prairie Auto Co. Here, besides offering general automotive and truck servicing, Zamorski also sold Plymouth and Dodge automobiles and International Harvester Trucks, as well as International Harvester machinery and Farmall tractors. Zamorski continued to operate this business until 1935, when he sold out to Louis Zaun, who continued to operate the garage until just before he died c. 1972, at the age of 86. Since then, the building has housed a variety of motor-related operations and is still in operation today. |
