NOTES
Additional Information:GABLE ORNAMENTS IN GABLE ENDS, SPINDLEWORK IN ELL PORCH. THE PRINCIPAL BARN HISTORICAALLY ASSOCIATED WITH THIS HOUSE HAS BEEN ALTERED BUT THE ORIGINAL BRICK SILO ASSOCIATED WITH IT IS STILL INTACT AS OF 2005. HISTORIC PLAT BOOKS SHOW THAT THE FARM WAS OWNED BY JOSEPH SMERCHEK FROM AT LEAST 1887 UNTIL 1924 (POSSIBLY A FATHER AND AFTERWARDS A SON OF THE SAME NAME), WHICH WOULD COVER THE TIME DURING WHICH THE HOUSE WAS BUILT.

This historic farmstead consists of a very intact Queen Anne style farmhouse and associated barns and other outbuildings. The house has a cruciform plan, is two stories in height, has exterior walls that are clad in clapboard, and has a multi-gable roof whose four gable ends are all ornamented with gable ornaments fashioned from wood spindle work. In addition to the house, there is also an early bank barn that was historically associated with it and which is located just to the east. This barn has a stone basement story but the upper walls have now been resided in vertical siding made of either metal or vinyl. Located next to the barn, however, is the original brick silo whose conical wood roof is still extant but in a deteriorated state. Two additional outbuildings found on the property are less than 50 years old and have been re-sided (2005).
