NOTES
Additional Information:A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation. Complex consists of an armory, residence, three garages and two maintenance buildings. On 2/5/1929, the Light Horse Squadron Association sold its armory building in Shorewood and purchased 10 acres of ground 600' north of Capitol Dr. between Richards and Holtan St. for $70,000. Construction of an armory and riding hall sufficient to house all cavalry units stationed in Milwaukee began and projected completion was 11/1/1930. The cost was expected to be $250,000. Deeded to the state on 10/24/1932.

From the 2005 HRL Survey:
This armory was designed by Lt. Col. Henry Hengels and constructed between 1929 and 1930. It is a good, intact example of the Art Deco style of architecture.
