Additional Information: | St. Mary's Convent was buitl in 1909 as the last and final home of the school sisters who staffed the nearby St. Mary's School. The building is a two-story American Foursquare style structure with a hip roof and tan brick walls. Punctuating the roof are hip-roofed dormers and both the dormers and the mian roof have wide overhanging eaves. The windows are single-light sashes, some in groups of two. A small porch coveres the main entrance. It has a hip roof, a clapboard-covered balustrade, square posts, plain brackets, and arched openings filled with screens. The screen and wood door has a transom of screens. It adds to the architectural significance of the complex for its American Foursquare style and high integrity. It adds to the historical significance of the complex because it was built for the school sisters who provided important educational services to the school during its historic period. |
