NOTES
Additional Information:2023: Appearance unchanged. This bridge was constructed in 1915 as a replacement for an earlier 1890 swing bridge that had been determined to be too light to carry the increasingly heavy loads of rail traffic. M in the photo codes is short for MVIS negatives. Triple intersection Warren truss design. A swinging bridge is one solution to crossing a navigable waterway. Almost identical to 12-6-7. This bridge, known as Chicago & North Western Railway Bridge #1556 was built in 1915. An article (https://archive.org/details/sim_railway-age_1915-04-16_58_16/page/837/mode/2up) lists contractors involved on this structure, including two prominent companies: American Bridge Company of New York (superstructure) Cleary-White Construction Company of Chicago (Substructure) This bridge was locally designated as a Milwaukee landmark in 2005.
