NOTES
Additional Information:A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. Originally part of a larger farmstead setting, this residence has a two-story, front-gabled main block and two, one-story gabled wings. The original block has a symmetrical facade. The primary entrance is located left of center and features a classical wooden surround complete with pilaster supports, a pedimented head, and sidelights. The one-story east wing features a shed-roof porch overhang with plain wooden supports. An unadorned second entry is located in this wing. The rear wing features a third entrance. Two sheds are also located on the property. The original owner of this modified Greek Revival farmhouse was Rufus C. Dodge, one of Fort Atkinson's earliest settlers who became a successful farmer and blacksmith. The Whitney's bought the property in 1875. The east ell of the building was constructed c.1875. The current owner is Alene (Whitney) Welcher.
