It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation. M in the photo codes is short for Menomonee Valley negatives. February/March 2003-This property consists of a number of reinforced concrete silos for the storage of cement. A few support structures, mostly constructed of steel, are also located on the property. In 1930, Universal Atlas Cement built this storage facility for the local distribution of cement produced at its Gary, Indiana, plant. Eight reinforced concrete silos were built that year, as well as a steel frame shipping and bagging structure. In 1956, a mill, 12 silos, a pump house and a change house/office building were added to the property. In 1980, the firm was a division of U.S. Steel Corp., however, more recently it was called Blue Circle Cement and today it is owned by St. Mary's Cement, Inc., Detroit, Michigan. 2016 - appearance unchanged. |
