Additional Information: | Was the W.A. Krueger Restaurant in 1947 and 1949. Was the Michael O. Preston Pan American Motel in 1959. 2014 This one-story contemporary building was constructed in 1947. It has a rectangular plan, flat roof with wide eaves, and is clad in brick and concrete block. The lower portion of the main (south) facade has red brick cladding and above that a ribbon of sliding glass windows. The front wall curves at the southwest corner. The main entrance is on the west elevation and is slightly recessed. It is sheltered by the projecting roof, which is supported by several thin, metal columns. Also on the west elevation is a door that leads to a small addition that is on the rear of the rooftop. A large triangular wood planter extends off the southeast corner of the building. Windows on side elevations are generally one-over-one replacements. At the rear of the parcel is a four-story contemporary motel that was constructed c.1960. It is clad in cream brick and has a flat roof and a rectangular plan. Though historically associated with the one-story building, it does not retain integrity and was not resurveyed. The one-story building was originally constructed for the W.A. Krueger Printing Company; however, it was soon sold to Evelyn J. May in the late 1940s. She remodeled the building into the Pan-American Club restaurant, which was inspired by her time studying Latin America with the help of the Pan-American Union. The dining room accommodated up to 114 guests (1). In 1958 the building was sold to Michael Preston, who expanded it and constructed the 73-unit motel at the rear of the property (2). It is currently used as an office building, while the motel is owned by an extended-care facility. |
