NOTES
Additional Information:Mason was Charles Gruenewald. Builder was John Debbink. The actual permit in the city records is dated September 30, 1916. It was most likely completed in 1917. The permit record shows the house’s construction cost $18,000 and that H.(Herman) W. Buemming was the architect. The owner is listed as W. J. Zimmers. The permit to construct the 23x30 foot garage is also dated September 30, 1916. It cost $600. A permit dated September 15, 1932 was issued to construct a 1 story open masonry porch 24 x 12 feet “at rear of house”. The permit adds “Also repair fire damage to house” Zimmers is still listed as owner on a 1959 permit to install a boiler. Zimmers (1875-1961) was a native of Racine and a prominent attorney. He began his career in 1902 as an assistant city attorney and was the founder and first president of the Milwaukee Rotary Club. He practiced law in the Wells Building with various partners. His wife, Meta Borchert, was the daughter of Ernst Borchert, partner in the Jung, Borchert Brewing Co. which was later absorbed by the Pabst Brewing Co.
