Additional Information: | Historic name interpreted from historic plats. Circa construction date implied through observation. Other buildings include house (AHI 117741), silo, crib, pole barn, sheds and garages. This is a gabled, vertical board bank barn with a metal-sheathed, shed-roof addition. A farm occupied this site at least as early as 1860, when it was part of an eighty acre operation maintained by J. Fuller. In 18723, A. Miller owned the tract, which contained 160 acres but apparently did not include the farmhouse. By 1878, historical plats are unclear, but it appears that G. Burnell was the proprietor. It is thought he was the owner of the property when the house was built c 1890; however it is possible that Joseph Metzger, Sr., constructed it. He farmed the 130 acre tract prior to 1910, when his son, Joseph, JR., rented the parcel and maintained a successful dairy operation. By 1920, W.C. Schultz assumed ownership of the farmstead, which evidently remained in the Schultz family through at least 1947. |
