Additional Information: | ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE: Excellent example of Colonial Revival style frame residence in nearly original condition. Note Palladian motif gable windows, pedimented dormer and cornice returns. Construction date, 1897. (1) R. Gehring, Builder. (2) H. P. Kaufmann, Original Owner, 1897. (2) Resurveyed April 2017; subsequent alterations include the addition of vinyl siding (resulting in the loss of original bargeboards), the replacement original porch railings, and the replacement of most visible windows. This 2-story Queen Anne house was constructed in 1897 following a design by architect Henry Messmer. It is rectangular in plan with vinyl siding and an asphalt-shingled gable roof with eave returns. The front elevation faces east and is dominated by a steeply-pitched gabled bay that spans the northern two-thirds of the façade. A flat-roofed porch spanning the width of the front elevation, wrapping around the southern corner of the projecting bay. The porch has narrow columnar supports with simple wood railings. Inside the porch is a single front door and two picture windows with single-pane transoms. A railing around the porch roof creates a second-story balcony. The second story contains a doorway located in the roof slope south of the projecting bay as well as two 1-over-1 windows. The attic level contains a small bank of Palladian windows. |
