Additional Information: | ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE: Good example of a late 19th Century brick commercial block. Important to the architectural character of W. National Avenue. Construction date, 1895. (unverified) (2) No original building permit on file. 2021: The Queen Anne style Siegfried Block was built in 1895. The building is clad in brick with wood and pressed metal decorative elements. The first story contains three storefront bays, alternating with second story entry doors. All the bays are separated by painted stucco pilasters with scrolled bases. The storefronts appear to have replacement bulkheads, windows, and doors and the transoms are all covered. A painted metal cornice caps the entire first floor elevation. The second story contains two three-sided oriel windows and a five-sided corner bay, all supported on corbels. Interspersed between the oriels are rusticated brick pilasters and one-over-one double hung windows with stone sills. A painted metal cornice with modillions caps the second story. The building is topped with a panelized metal parapet wall. The center bay contains a brick stepped gable with a rectangular name panel and is capped by a round-arched sunburst panel. |
