Additional Information: | Map code 0710-061-3425-0. 1987- The French Battery Co. was founded in 1906 Named in honor of the Frenchman who developed its first battery, the firm operated briefly in Chicago before moving to Madison. With the technical advice of C.F. Burgess of the UW's Chemical Engineering Department, the company produced batteries for all types of appliances including telephones, ignition switches, flashlights and radios. The company built this 1-story plant in 1916, and added two floors in the same style in 1920. |
