NOTES
Additional Information:ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE: Typical early frame store. This was once the most common form of small retail store in Milwaukee. Few examples remain today. Construction date, 1880. (1) Bakery, c. 1894. (2) Sanborn maps and city directories suggest that this building was constructed in the 1880s and first operated as a dry goods store. From the early 1920s until 1959 it was bakery operated in succession by John Vavra, John Lindemann and Arthur Schneeweis. The building today appears to operate as a residence. 2015- "This two-stmy, front-gabled, frame commercial building has a storefront covered with sheet metal and an upper facade covered with clapboard; the two levels are divided by a small pent covered with wooden shingles. The downsized one-over-one, double-hung sashes are topped with a raised hood. A four-pane oculus window pierces the gabled peak. Sanborn maps and city directories suggest that this building was constructed in the 1880s and first operated as a dry goods store. From the early 1920s until 1959 it was a bakery operated in succession by John Vavra, John Lindemann and Atihur Schneeweis. The building today appears to serve as a residence." -"W Vliet St, N 27th St (west) to N 12th St (east)", WISDot 2984-00-03, Prepared by Heritage Research, Ltd. (Brian J. Faltinson & Traci E.
