Building was a tavern (1875-present)

Cream City brick Italianate business block, with characteristic round-headed windows, and hipped roof. The brick has been painted and the first floor facade has been altered.

Early "corner grocery" with upstairs residence. Peter Kief, a native of Ireland, purchased property on this corner in 1870 and his grocery business is first listed at this address in 1873-74. Theodore Wagner was his partner until 1875, after which Kief alone ran the business, which by then also including a saloon. Kief continued a saloon there until 1886, when the Cream City Brewing Company leased the building. In the following year Kief sold the property.

"Alterations and Additions (as of 1973):
Permit No. 20819, June 28, 1949 - to remodel the store front for owner Emma Anderson; estimated cost $1,000.
At an undetermined date, both the north and east entrances were remodeled."
