Additional Information: | 2024: DESCRIPTION The two-story industrial building was originally constructed in 1891 and expanded with a two-story addition in 1901 along the north elevation. It is a loadbearing brick building constructed with cream brick and finished with a flat roof. The building is rectangular in plan. At the time of construction, the building stood at the northwest corner of Ferry Street and E. Pittsburgh Avenue (formerly Lake Street). As constructed, the principal elevations faced east toward Ferry Street which has been vacated and is not a parking lot. Although the original entrance locations remain in place in the east elevation, the orientation of the building has changed such that the primary entrances are in the west elevation facing S. 1st Street. A glazed entrance vestibule was constructed at the south end of the west elevation circa 2005 when the property was redeveloped as a coffee shop. The windows in the south elevation and portions of the east elevation were replaced with a band of four-light windows set in a cast concrete casing. In the same portion of the building, the corbelled cornice has been removed. The north portion of the original building and the north addition retain the original segmental arch window openings and the original entrance openings in the east elevation. A one-story addition was also constructed along the north elevation in 1953 but was removed between 2000 and 2005. A new one-story addition was constructed around the northwest corner of the building in 2005. --- 1901 - Two story brick addition. 1953 - one story added. 2016 - Now Colectivo Coffee. Cream brick walls with bands of c.1950 metal windows on south and west elevations. A small chimney, arched windows and door openings remain on the west elevation. Some windows and doors have been replaced. |
