NOTES
Additional Information:Mason was Rud Gehring. Resurveyed 2022 by UWM-CRM as part of a Locust St. roadwork project. This corner grocery store was built in 1908 for F. Eicherman. The building was designed by architects H. Messmer and Son. The two-story building is roughly L-shaped in plan, with a two story, front-gabled portion facing east onto N. Richards St., and a lower 1 ½ story portion located to the north. The building is clad in vinyl siding and appears to have mostly replacement windows. The first story storefront has been largely covered over with vinyl; however, it retains its historic transom windows and its decorative posts and storefront beam. Two sets of wide concrete stairs lead to the former store entrances from the Richards St. sidewalk. A distinctive polygonal oriel window is located in the south (Locust St.) elevation; this oriel is supported on scroll cut brackets and is capped with a gable supported on yet more scroll cut brackets.
