A demolition permit was applied for on November 3, 2015. The Chemistry Instructional Addition and Renovation project site is located at 1101 University Avenue on the UW-Madison campus. The project is comprised of both a renovation and partial demolition (northern section) of the existing Daniels Building to allow for a tower addition. This addition will require the acquisition and removal of the Abiel Brooks Residence building (built 1851) currently located at 1121 University Avenue. According to descendants of Abiel Brooks, Abiel Brooks built a log cabin where the Chemistry Building is. He then built the Brooks house after finding gold in the California Gold Rush. He built the house for $2,000. The property originally had fruit trees and Brooks owned the entire block.

2006: "A large brick Federal style house that faced east, much altered, now part of the Wesley Foundation Chapel property."
