Additional Information: | At one time this building housed the Skarb Czestochvia, the forerunner of the Riverside Savings and Loan Association. This was one of several Polish building and loan associations in Milwaukee. It gave short term mortgages to Polish immigrants to purchase homes. The organization originated as Skarb Czestochvia during WWI in northeast Milwaukee and changed its name to Riverside Savings and Loan in 1923. E. Koeller was the builder. Fair example of a brick store/flat with integrity of form. Original store front probably extant under modern facade. Rare example by this little known architect. |
