Additional Information: | ODD ARCHED WINDOW IN DORMER "Located at 1437-39 Marquette Street, the "new" Engine House No. 4 is the most unique of Racine's firehouses. The bungalow, a 1-or 1 1/2-story house with a low-pitch roof, wide eaves with exposed rafters and broad porch, was sweeping across America. Many neighborhoods in Racine, most noticeably West Racine, are composed mainly of bungalows. It seems only natural that there be a bungalow firehouse. On November 17, 1925, the Common Council adopted the plans for a bungalow firehouse designed by A.L. Flegel & Co. of Racine. Then on December 15, 1925, a construction contract for $25,500 was awarded to George Henningson. The bungalow firehouse was completed in 1926 and it replaces the "old" Engine House No. 4." Robert D.
