GROUP OF FIVE BLDGS BUILT BETWEEN 1870 AND 1900 SEE NRHP NOMIATION FORM FOR COMPLETE DESCRIPTION AND STATEMENT The Shaw-Hill Log Cabin, also known as the post office and the beach house, is located along the shoreline near the Shaw-Hill dock. It was one of the earliest structures Frank Shaw built on his property when he started a commercial fishing camp around 1870. Burt Hill and his wife, Anna Mae Shaw, purchased the property and lived in the cabin until approximately 1915 when they moved up the hill to the log house. The cabin also functioned as the Shaw Point post office. Additionally, Hill managed a cooperative store out of a lean-to addition that was constructed on the west side of the cabin. After the post office and store were discontinued, the Hills rented the cabin to boarders and fishermen. Fred Andersen purchased the property in 1944 for use as a seasonal residence for his family. He sold the property to his son, Hugh, and his son-in-law, Bill Hulings, in 1946. It is still used as a seasonal residence for Andersen descendants today. |
