NOTES
Additional Information:2022: The Millers Bakery Inc. building was constructed in 1976 and is a one-story, vernacular, commercial building. It is primarily constructed of concrete block and has a flat roof. The front (east) facade consists of a central metal door covered with a metal awning and metal, single-pane, casement windows. While this elevation is clad primarily in brick, the space above and below each window is clad in a pebbled concrete aggregate. A brick-clad garage housing three loading bays is located on the eastern quarter of the south elevation and a ca. 2005 standing metal seam addition is located on the western quarter of the south elevation. Other alterations to the building since its initial 1982 survey appear to be limited to the facade and include the replacement of the door, addition of the awning, and the infilling of area under several windows with stone veneer. Miller’s Bakery Inc. (also referred to as Miller’s Baking Company) was established in Milwaukee in 1923 by Charles E. Miller. The company was purchased in 1970 by Richard Miller, who shared the same surname but was not related to Charles. In 1976 Richard constructed the subject building to serve as a bakery for the business. In 1997 his son, Brian Miller, took over the operation of the company. In 2007 Brian introduced the “Pretzilla” line of pretzel rolls, which serves as the company’s flagship product line. In 2012 the company purchased a second building at 8313 N. Steven Road, from which it began to distribute its products nationally.
