Additional Information: | CORBELLED CAST IRON CORNICE W/ BRACKETED EAVESHEVY STONE LINTELS AND SILLS Resurveyed 2013; no visible changes. This 2-story Commercial Vernacular building was constructed in 1884. It is irregular in plan with cream brick walls and a flat roof with a wide, elaborate, cast iron cornice. A small triangular parapet projects from the center of the cornice and contains the construction date in relief; oversized ornamental brackets project from each corner. Decorative brick corbelling is located below the cornice on each side of the building. The front elevation faces west and is asymmetrical in plan. The first story fa9ade is entirely covered in newer board and batten siding and contains two picture windows and a single doorway. The second story contains three 1-over-1 windows with stone crowns and sills. A smaller version of the main cornice is located between the first and second stories across the facade. The building is in good condition, but retains only a moderate degree of integrity due to the loss of the shop windows and the re-cladding of the first-story in board and batten siding. Because of its diminished integrity (specifically, the loss of its character-defining shop windows), the building is not a particularly fine representative of Commercial Vernacular architecture. This building was previously surveyed in 1975; no changes are visible. The AHI record was updated with the new survey date and unchanged appearance. |
