NOTES
Additional Information:Architectual Significance: The building is an eclectic combination of elements but generally imparts a Neo-Classic Revival flavor due to it's detailing. The Mansz Building is architectualy significant as one of three similar buildings located together, the other being contiguous to the north. Historical Significance: The building was designed by H. Messmer, and constructed in 1890 for Fred Mansz and Fred Vogt. The contractors were Mr. Wedner, mason, and John Stoppelfeldt, carpenter. According to 'Wright's Director of Milwaukee' for 1910, Mansz resided only a few blocks away at 2513 N. First St. In 1894 the third bay was added (25' x 70') also designed be Messmer and constructed by Vogt. It is not known whether the addition is the northernmost or southernmost bay of the present building. In 1908, an alteration was made to show the windows and create bays 18" over the lot line. However, these were removed ten years later. In 1951, remodeling was completed by Edward Schuster & Company to convert the structure into offices, adjacent to the main Schuster Department Store.
