NOTES
Additional Information:Architectural Statement: Description: The building is a three story brick masonry design incorporating a variety of stylistic elements. The upper floors are a symmetrical composition with a wider center unit flanked by narrower rectangular openings. The center portion on the second floor is a shallow bay window; above on the third floor is a wide round-arch opening with rusticated stone voussoirs. The whole is topped by rather spectacular parapet with a large triangular center section, embelished with panels, dentils, and fan motifs. This raised section descends to each side in shallow "S" curves which terminate in caps on the side wall piers, topped by urns. Carved stone units and brick panels are corbelled out above the windows forming the base of the parapet. The whole parapet portion displays the flavor of a German Renaissance gable (1982 photo - 37/9). Significance: The building is a Victorian eclectic composition of various stylistic elements, which imparts a German Renaissance flavor. It is significant for the elaborate detailing it has, especially at the upper cornice and triangular pediment level. Historical Statement: The building was built circa 1890. Excellent example of a three bay cream brick store with integrity of form and appearance and unusually ornate original cornice. Elements of original storefront are intact. Locally designated district: 11/12/85.
