McMynn (1824-1900) served in the Civil War and is best known as a pioneering educator. He was instrumental in organizing Wisconsin's first public school system, was principal of Racine High School, and Superintendent of Public Instruction from 1864-1868. He established Racine Academy and ran it from 1875-1882. Was a University of Wisconsin Regent from 1857-1863, 1864-1868, 1868-1870, and 1880-1889. He was the President of the Wisconsin State Teacher's Association in 1853. |
