This structure is an excellent example of a frame cottage. It is in fine condition and has retained its original form and design.

Resurveyed as part of Milwaukee Downtown Connector Arch/History Survey (2010), Prepared by Heritage Research.

2010: This one-and-one-half-story, clapboard-sided, gabled ell is largely vernacular in appearance. The building possesses a hipped-roof porch with a spindled balustrade and, on its first story, a large window and an additional entrance. Fenestration consists of one-over-one, wooden sash windows with divided-light storms. Window openings feature modest wooden surrounds -- several of which are segmentally arched. A second story canted bay with a flared base clad in wooden shingles is found on the south elevation.

Designed by Charles Fitzgerald, the subject residence was constructed circa 1894-96 for Captain John J. Lynch. The builder was Wend & Cagney. At the time, John Lynch worked in the real estate field. Paul Gross owned the house in 1937 to at least 1950. In 1962, Anna Gross resided at the property.
