Additional Information: | This industrial facility was the headquarters of the Scanlan-Morris Company, a manufacturer of medical operating room equipment and furnishings. The building is composed of multiple sections, the earliest of which dates from c.1915. Additions were constructed in the 1920s and 1930s. The overall footprint is irregularly shaped, as the building is essentially a series of interconnected box-like forms staggered along a curve of East Johnson Street. Most of the building follows a consistent design. Sections are two stories in height, constructed of reinforced concrete, and consist of large bays of steel-frame windows. Some classical details are present, including stepped parapets with coping and pilasters and spandrels with recessed panels. Single-story garage additions are located on the rear and west end of the building, which includes a Quonset-like structure. A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation-Public History. Demolition proposed 11/7/2024. |
