NOTES
Additional Information:2024: The resource consists of the former Chicago & Northwestern Railroad Dock and Warehouse building and the associated Carbonic Gas Storage building. A spur of the namesake railroad runs through the property between the two buildings in a northwest-southeast trajectory. The dock and warehouse building is a one-story wood frame building constructed in at least two phases: the southern portion circa 1894 and the northern portion circa 1910. The principal elevation faces southwest toward the railroad spur and ultimately S. Water Street. It is arranged into several irregularly spaced bays delineated by low relief pilasters. The bays are blind or unfenestrated walls, feature clerestory bands of (4) four-light metal sash windows or contain single and double loading bays. Several of the loading bays retain wood paneled overhead doors while some have been replaced with metal overhead doors. At least two of the loading bays along the railroad spur have been altered into glazed pedestrian entrances. The loading bays at the north end of the are built, or have been modified, to accommodate vehicular shipments. The storage building is a one-story a-stylistic utilitarian building constructed circa 1951. The small building is rectangular in plan and constructed of concrete block and faced with brick along the street-facing (southwest) elevation. The original window openings have been bricked in but remain discernible. The two entrances have been reduced and partially filled with brick around single flush, metal doors. 2016 - resurveyed, appearance unchanged. Many loading docks retain wood doors, narrow bands of metal windows along eave line. Curved west elevation to follow railroad tracks.
