Additional Information: | 2 STEEPLY PITCHED GABLED DORMERS ON FRONT. A circa 1920s, enclosed porch rests within the ell juncture and is comprised of a continuous band of six over one light windows with an overhead transom. The upper level of the ell wing features a pair of wall dormers with distinctive hoods; a pair of identical dormers are located along the south facade of the two story, front facing wing. Regarding the front facing wing, the first floor features a rectangular window bay with four, one over one light sashes, while the upper level consists of a pair of sash windows topped by a raised, triangular "hood". A second rectangular by window is located along the first level of the south elevation. In previous material, this house was incorrectly circa dated as 1875. The Sharon Reporter indicates that Cassius started to dig the cellar for his new house on 2 June 1881. Previously surveyed in 1975 and mapped as 30 on DOT Sharon. Since survey in 1975, this house has been sheathed with wide, asbestos siding. The 1902 photo of the house depicts the original and open "stickwork" porch. Cassius F. Arnold was in the lumber business with his brother-in-law William Hoard until opening a hardware store in 1890. Cassius died in 1915. |
