NOTES
Additional Information:A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. 1988- "Genetics was founded in 1910 by L. J. Cole as the Department of Experimental Breeding. Joshua Lederberg was a member of the department when he won Wisconsin's first Nobel Prize in 1958. Two of the best known achievements in plant genetics were R. A. Brink's development of winter-resistant alfalfa and Oliver Nelson's production of nutritionally rich high-lysine corn. Among recent achievements are Masayasu Nomura's demonstration that ribosomes can be taken apart and re-assembled, thus opening the way for understanding of the structure and function of these protein-synthesizing intracellular particles. This building contained the first Genetic Counseling Clinic in the U.S. which helps people who may by the victims or carriers of a genetic disease."
