NOTES
Additional Information:In 1963, C.J. and Edna Chapman commissioned Madison architect Herb Fritz, Jr. to design this house. Dohm Construction was the builder.

The house's strong horizontal lines, flat roof, and angular projections mark the work of Fritz, a student of Frank Lloyd Wright. The large living room is dominated by a massive fireplace that is the focal point of the room.

Herb Fritz, Jr. (1915-1998) was born is Sioux City, Iowa. His father (Herb Fritz, Sr.) worked in the offices of Frank Lloyd Wright; his mother (Mary Larson) was the daughter of Wright's stonemason, Alfred Larson. Prior to joining Wright's Taliesin Fellowship in 1938, the younger Fritz studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and the University of Wisconsin. He also worked for two years in the Madison office architect William Kaeser. Fritz studied at Taliesin from 1938-1941.

From Taliesin, Fritz moved on to an independent career as a designer, achieving the status of registered architect in 1959. He completed several hundred residential and commercial commissions, many in the Madison area.
