Additional Information: | Carpenter was John Dobbink. Mason was Charles Gruenwald. Famous for building an opera house where the Pabst Theater stands, Robert Nunnemacher ran a malting business that prospered in this beer-brewing city. Nunnemacher’s house contrasts his Germanic roots with an Elizabethan Revival design. Its brick and stone entrance bordered with stone trimmed piers and balusters leads to an arched, stone entry portal that supports a carved stone cartouche. Twin wings featuring banks of rectangular lights divided by stone mullions frame its central brick façade trimmed with Bedford limestone. Each wing has stepped gables crowned with pediments embellished with carved stone. The slate roof has a central, demure wall dormer to match the gables, and two limestone-trimmed, brick chimney stacks. |
