SUMMARY
This commercial area just east of the Capitol grew between 1871 and 1935 to serve nearby railroad depots. Five of the eight historic buildings are in Italianate style. The district includes the Chicago and North Western passenger depot, built in 1908 in Neo-Classical style; the Cardinal Hotel (1909) built of red brick; and the 1871 Italianate style Wilson Hotel with its 1897 Queen Anne remodeling.
