This five-block strip of 74 commercial buildings between Vine St. and North Ave. was the city's first major business and retail center outside of the central business district. The two- and three-story buildings were constructed between 1854 and 1936, representing a complete spectrum of architectural styles. The area is associated with the German business community which flourished there from the 1840s until WWII. |
