| Frost Woods Historic District Roughly bounded by Panther Trail, Pheasant Hill Road, Owen Road, Bridge Road, Graham Drive, and Lake Monona in Monona, Dane County Architects: Gwenydd Beatty, Hamilton Beatty, Alan Strang The Frost Woods Historic District is a significant, cohesive concentration of distinctive and intact houses in the International, Ranch, Contemporary, and Colonial Revival styles in Monona. The district is also a physical manifestation of unique planning principles established by its neighborhood homeowner’s association. The Frost Woods Homes Association has been active since the mid-1930s and was established to preserve the natural and architectural beauty of the Frost Woods area. It was significant in creating and maintaining the district’s historic and architectural character. The Frost Woods Historic District also contains significant archaeological sites that are integral to the setting and character of the neighborhood. The district consists of 126 contributing buildings, three public parks counted as contributing sites, and seventeen noncontributing buildings. Construction dates range from 1911 to 2016, with most houses built between 1931 and 1980. Architecturally, the contributing buildings primarily reflect the Modern design Movement, representing the International, Ranch, and Contemporary styles of residential architecture. Less prominent styles in the district include Colonial Revival, Craftsman, and English Revival. All homes are privately owned. Please respect the privacy of the owners. |
