SUMMARY
Fraternal Reserve Association Building
105 Washington Avenue
Oshkosh, Wisconsin 54901

Architect: Henry Auler (1914)
Date of Construction: 1914

At its completion in 1914, the FRA Building was among the largest fraternal organization buildings in the Fox River Valley and remains among the most intact of Oshkosh’s surviving fraternal organization buildings. Since the city’s founding, fraternal organizations played an important role in Oshkosh’s social and economic development. The rapid growth of the FRA, its extensive membership across the Midwest, and its influential leadership attest to the importance of the association within the city of Oshkosh and beyond. The FRA is also believed to have been the only U.S. fraternal organization to have its national headquarters located in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

The building is a fine example an excellent of Georgian Revival Style architecture in Oshkosh. Designed by prominent Wisconsin architect Henry Auler (1884-1951), the FRA Building displays a Classical-inspired tripartite composition, symmetrical red brick-clad elevations, a flat roof, and abundant use of Classical-inspired ornamentation.
