Situated on a small hill northwest of downtown Portage, centered on West Franklin and Dunn Streets, this neighborhood contains 200 residences built between 1870 and 1910. The district combines the high-style residences of former prominent business figures and the vernacular housing of former railroad employees. Common architectural styles include Italianate, Second Empire, and Queen Anne, with a significant number of Gabled Ell and Side Gable forms.
