SUMMARY
Built by the state in 1932 for juvenile girls, this wooded site ten miles south of Madison was thought to offer a healthful environment away from the evils of the city. The 13 buildings were arranged in a "cottage plan" and include a school, maintenance buildings and ten cottages unified by the use of lannon stone and red tile roofs. Since 1976, it has been operated as the Oakhill Correctional Institution, a minimum security prison for men.
