Designed for the mental health care of Wisconsin's "shell-shocked" veterans of World War I, the Memorial Hospital, now Mendota Mental Health Institute, is located on 20 acres of land in a campus-like settings on a hill north of Lake Mendota. The district includes ten simple Tudor-inspired Craftsman style cottages (1922-28), the superintendent's Tudor-Revival residence (1932), the Neo-Classical Memorial Hospital (1921), and a small chapel (1922). |
